Creating assessment data for the individual

Big statements around Values and Mission and Forecast are often very far removed from individual staff. Our moderators can help you to break them down into behaviour statements at several levels. They can help sub-divide budget/strategy objectives into Golden Threads that link to a Department’s objectives and ultimately to an individual’s objectives.

This gives a quick win where staff engage and managers receive and give feedback.

It’s the “what happens next” that really gets our attention! Every issue, every problem, every deviation requires a solution which can be a suite of options from the vast libraries of learning that are available today.

If we accept that change happens one person at a time and that everyone has different experiences, a bottom-up approach must offer different learning solutions to stretch individuals. There is a need to understand their issues and concerns.

Linking recommended learning to Behaviours, Job Roles and Skills allows an organisation to offer several options to staff. Programmes around Talent and Succession, Interventions and Frameworks stretches staff at every level and shows an organisation that cares.

Sourcing learning from multiple libraries with modest payments is key to our proposal for change and we do that with our patented Learning Portal.

Self-evaluation encourages staff to be reflective and honest. Statistics show that a staff member will spend five times longer than a manager on a personal assessment. Being honest encourages staff to put their hands up and say “I need some assistance here!” Both parties are now contracted to the learning journey.

Metrics help managers to see trends and deep-dive into specifics. At a higher level they also identify soft spots in an organisation – weak or bullying managers, an ethos inconsistent with the organisation’s values, reluctance to change, following individual objectives that do not align with the department’s objectives.

Diagnosing the problem is half the solution because it enables a conversation to take place. The second half is providing learning, coaching, and frameworks to prescribe solutions, and timeframes to get the team or department back on message.

A good evaluation of responsiveness to change will indicate what programmes are most appropriate.

Buddying with a person in another department, for example, may work wonders on Behaviours and Objectives. The other person is “recognised” and the person struggling is in safe territory. Works almost every time!

Induction and promoting new Managers are testing times for the person. Failure in the first six weeks is common so why not put a programme in place to help.

Talented staff appreciate being stretched. A Framework for them shows you care (and will retain them) but also readies them for the next step.

Sometimes interventions come from the board or CEO who needs an immediate impact. For example, there may be a need to alert key groups of staff to a change in policy using a learning programme. It could be statutory or mandatory or an immediate board directive. You can select the staff and the programme, “push” it out there, monitor compliance and evaluate the impact of change.
